U.S. Department of Transportation Awards Aptive Five-Year Recruitment Contract

The U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has awarded Aptive a five-year contract to recruit skilled engineers for the Office of Pipeline Safety. The blanket purchase agreement is valued at $4 million.

The Office of Pipeline Safety (OPS) runs a national program to ensure the safe, reliable and environmentally-sound operation of the nation’s natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline transportation system. OPS also directs education and outreach efforts to encourage state and local governments, pipeline operators and the general public to adopt and use safety programs and activities.

To fulfill its mission, OPS must continue to attract highly qualified engineers who are committed to public service and can adapt to changing and complex technical environments. Recruitment challenges include lower salaries than the private sector for hard-science engineers, frequent travel and a lengthy on-the-job training period.

Aptive will help design and implement successful recruitment programs by:

  • Developing recruitment strategies that include specific efforts to attract military Veterans.
  • Drafting and publishing recruitment information on social media outlets such as LinkedIn, as well as in educational and professional journals and publications.
  • Attending and providing recruitment support at engineering job fairs.
  • Maintaining an online applicant tracking system.
  • Managing correspondence and relationships with college placement officers, engineering professors and professional employment services.
  • Providing biweekly recruitment status reports.

“Our proven recruitment strategies currently help the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Transportation and other agencies across the federal government address personnel needs,” said Aly Glick, Aptive Vice President for Communications and Marketing. “We are eager to apply these successful approaches to expand the engineering workforce at OPS.”
