Aptive HTG to Conduct Mental Health Study Under New Veterans Health Administration Contract

Aptive HTG has been awarded a contract to conduct a feasibility study for the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act. The assessment will help the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to determine the feasibility and advisability of realigning and reorganizing Suicide Prevention Coordinators (SPC) and Suicide Prevention Case Managers (SPCMs) within the Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, as well as the creation of a national SPC Program Office. The one-year study runs through February 2022.

In accordance with Section 506 of the Act, Aptive HTG will examine laws, regulations, policies and reports and conduct interviews with key subject matter experts. The research team will also study the projected impact on access, quality, experience and cost outcomes of suicide prevention services, producing a final report that will inform a briefing to the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs of both the Senate and House of Representatives.

“This study is an important component of the Hannon Act, which was signed into law late last year through strong bipartisan efforts and with significant support from Veterans Service Organizations. Our analysis and findings will serve as an important step towards informing VHA’s ongoing efforts to improve access to mental health services and prevent Veteran suicide,” said Clive Ballard, Aptive’s Vice President of Enterprise Health Solutions.

The Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act is a comprehensive approach to connect Veterans with mental health care services. It includes improving programs for service members transitioning from military to civilian life, increasing suicide prevention efforts and collaboration with non-VA community providers, expanding Veteran access to complementary and integrative health programs, and conducting research to better understand specific risk factors associated with mental health conditions common among Veterans.

The feasibility study task order falls under the Integrated Healthcare Transformation (IHT) Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract. Under this IDIQ, Aptive HTG and IHT partners support VHA across a variety of areas as needs arise, including health care modernization and transformation, financial management business transformation, analytics and mental health and suicide prevention.
