Since 2011, the Department of Veterans Affairs Caregiver Support Program (CSP) has provided training, resources and financial support to caregivers of those who have borne the battle. Now, at a time when caregivers and Veterans need access to services more than ever, CSP is moving steadfast in enhancing those services, and is leveraging the expertise of Aptive HTG in the process.
Aptive HTG provides solutions to CSP’s evolving needs under a new $9.2 million transformation and innovation contract. Through the project, which began in October 2020, Aptive and teaming partners from The Lewin Group and ERPi provide performance measurement and data analysis, policy, training, strategic communications and human resources support services. Aptive HTG designed these services to collectively help CSP prepare, streamline and communicate its support for Veterans’ caregivers.
“As a service-disabled, Veteran-owned small business, the Caregiver Support Program’s mission to support Veterans and their caregivers has equally become our mission,” said Jason Ormsby, PhD, Aptive’s Chief Healthcare Innovation Officer. “The services CSP provides play a critical role in keeping our Veterans in safe environments and we’re dedicated to providing services that empower Veterans’ caregivers.”
Part of CSP’s enhancement of services include the expansion of its Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC). The PCAFC provides caregivers of eligible Veterans with education, training, respite care, a monthly financial stipend and mental health support related to Veteran care. Prior to the PCAFC’s October 2020 expansion, its services were available to caregivers of eligible Veterans seriously injured in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001. Now, those services have expanded to include caregivers of eligible Veterans seriously injured in the line of duty on or before May 7, 1975. In two years, the program will be open to caregivers of eligible Veterans of all eras of service. Since the October expansion, the program has made a significant impact for Vietnam era Veterans, who face unique challenges from their time in service, including exposure to Agent Orange.
A critical component of Aptive HTG’s services to CSP includes helping the program successfully navigate virtual platforms for both internal operations and external communication. To date, the team has facilitated a series of external engagements to help Veterans and their caregivers understand the services available to them through CSP. Internally, Aptive HTG established processes that have enabled CSP hire and train staff, present clear policies and analyze the program’s progression towards organizational standardization.
The CSP Transformation and Innovation task order falls under the Integrated Healthcare Transformation (IHT) Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract. Under this IDIQ, Aptive HTG and IHT partners support VHA across a variety of areas as needs arise, including health care modernization and transformation, financial management business transformation, analytics and mental health and suicide prevention.
