Aptive announces the appointment of Adi V. Gundlapalli, MD, PhD, MS, as Chief Medical Officer, strengthening the firm’s leadership in health IT, public health and federal health initiatives.

Dr. Gundlapalli brings more than 20 years of experience as a physician-scientist, public health leader and nationally recognized expert in clinical informatics, health data modernization and infectious diseases. He is widely known for advancing real-time analytics, pathogen detection and surveillance systems in high-stakes environments, including national biodefense and health security operations.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Gundlapalli will provide clinical and scientific leadership across Aptive’s health portfolio, advising on strategy, solution development and delivery in support of health informatics, public health and federal health missions.

Most recently, Dr. Gundlapalli served as Senior Advisor for Data Readiness and Response within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Office of Public Health Data, Surveillance and Technology. In that role, he led enterprise-wide modernization efforts and supported emergency response operations requiring complex, multidisciplinary data coordination, including secure briefings for senior federal leadership.

From 2019 to 2023, Dr. Gundlapalli served as Chief Public Health Informatics Officer at CDC, where he led large-scale data and analytics initiatives supporting responses to COVID-19, mpox, Marburg and other public health emergencies. He also managed a $150 million public health surveillance portfolio and contributed to the CDC’s Public Health Data Modernization Initiative.

Before joining the CDC, Gundlapalli held multiple leadership and clinical roles within the Department of Veterans Affairs and the University of Utah, including Chief Health Informatics Officer at the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System and Tenured Professor of Medicine.

“Adi is a rare combination of clinician, scientist and systems-level leader,” said Sean Lenehan, Aptive’s Chief Operating Officer. “His experience modernizing public health data infrastructure, leading national emergency response efforts and delivering compassionate patient care will be invaluable as Aptive continues to support federal health agencies in solving complex, mission-critical challenges.”

Dr. Gundlapalli is board-certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases and clinical informatics and holds active medical licenses in Georgia and Utah. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and was named a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher in 2025, placing him among the top 0.1% of researchers worldwide for citation impact. He continues to see patients at Emory Healthcare and serves part-time as Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Laboratory Medical Director at Emory University School of Medicine.

“Aptive’s focus on strengthening federal health systems and improving outcomes for Veterans and other patient populations is deeply compelling,” said Dr. Gundlapalli. “I am excited to join the team and help advance innovative, high-quality solutions in support of critical government missions.”
